What is COPD and what may be done about it?
COPD is an abbreviation which sometimes appears on a hospital treatment information sheet. The abbreviation stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It is characterized by limitation or even temporary obstruction of airflow in the airways. The disease is caused by chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema. Contractions of bronchi are sometimes an additional symptom.
COPD is closely linked to smoking. Herbs can help a lot in treating diabetes but they can do nothing about COPD unless a patient gives up smoking. Only then can both herbal and synthetic drugs start working effectively. Expectorate, antiphlogistic and bronchodilating preparations should be used in treating COPD.
The Phytotherapy Centre usually recommends expectorate Pulmobon capsules and a herbal blend Pulmobonisan. Both the preparations should be used once or twice a day. If symptoms aggravate, the dose should be increased to three times a day. If a patient often suffers from infections of the upper airways, which is common for COPD, Apibon (1 capsule 3 times a day for 4 to 5 weeks) is recommended in order to improve immunity of his or her body. A patient should remember to humidify his or her surroundings, especially during the cold season, as dry air usually intensifies symptoms of the disease.
Good effects in treating COPD are achieved through a therapy with the use of salt caverns, built from salt rocks, especially from the salt mine in Bochnia. The Phytotherapy Centre has such caverns where small saline graduation towers have additionally been set up. Such salt caverns produce good results not only in treating COPD but also in other airways diseases, such as asthma. The caverns should be patterned on the inside of salt mines where walls consist only of salt rocks. Caverns in which walls and ceilings are made from a kind of foam covered with salt plaster are not effective as their influence on the body is nothing less than questionable.
To sum up, it is necessary to give up smoking if any success in treating COPD is to be achieved. A patient will feel worse unless he does just that. Respiratory failure might take place, which in turn might lead to a patient's death. In case of COPD it might be said that if a patient wants to live, he or she has no other choice but give up smoking.
