The use of phytotherapy in eye problems
Herbs, especially euphrasy, the flowers of chamomile, yarrow or marigold, and tea leaves, are used in the most external problems, such as conjuctivis and/or keratoconjuctivis. Baths, washes and compresses are recommended. However, phytotherapy produces the best results in treating the most internal problems of the retina, the part of eye which is practically responsible for seeing. The retina, just like any part of the body, ages and its functions deteriorate. Diabetes, sclerosis and/or arterial hypertension precipitate the deterioration of the retina.
Such ailments require herbal preparations to supplement the diet. An extract from bilberry (not the fruit itself as it would be necessary to eat 20 grams of it per day) is the most important as it contains anthocyanins which improve the blood flow in the retina by eliminating free radicals. The extract also facilitates seeing in the dark and gives some relief to the eyes which have been fixed on the computer screen.
Other important ingredients include carotenoids, beta-carotene and lutein which are beneficial for the retinal macula (the part of the retina which makes it possible to see colours). Among other recommended ingredients the anti-oxidizing vitamins cannot be neglected as they also improve the functioning of the retina by eliminating free radicals.
All the aforementioned ingredients are present in Oculobon which is recommended for people suffering from diabetes, hypertension, sclerosis or other diseases which hamper the blood flow in the retina. Oculobon is also advisable for drivers working at night and computer users who spend hours in front of the screen.
