What about memory?
Memory disorders is a common reason for visits at the Phytotherapy Centre. They appear suddenly as a result of cerebral ischaemia, strokes or apoplexy, but they may just as well develop gradually, mostly because of sclerosis. Pharmacotherapy absolutely cannot cope well with memory-related problems. Admittedly, there are a few preparations which have beneficial effects on memory, but generally the effects are poor or doubtful.
However, phytotherapy has a perfect remedy for memory disorders in the form of Ginkgo biloba. We were apparently the first in Poland to have introduced Ginkgo to phytotherapy because it has been among the ingredients of geriatric drops, Cardiobonisol, for almost twenty years. It is also a little known fact that it was St. Maksymilian Kolbe who imported the first Ginkgo plants from Japan. They can be admired on the famous Cracow green belt near the Franciscan monastery.
More and more therapeutic properties of Ginkgo are found each year. Its beneficial effects on Alzheimer's disease have been discovered recently.
Ginkgo produces various results. Firstly, it improves the cerebral blood flow as well as the blood flow in other internal organs. Ginkgo has a protective effect on the cerebral tissue, causing it to function as if it were well supplied with blood even if it is badly supplied. This is a very rare property.
The leaf of Ginkgo hampers the forming of clots in the cerebral arteries, which prevents cerebral embolisms and consequently a paralysis.
Ginkgo stimulates the functioning of the brain, which is important for the elderly or the people who do intellectual work. It is beneficial to combine Ginkgo with the root of ginseng in order to facilitate the brain-stimulating effects. Such a combination is present in Memobon which, thanks to this, is a preparation strengthening both the body and mind. The aforementioned effects brought about by Memobon additionally soothe the dizziness and/or tinnitus if they have been caused by the cerebral ischeamia.
