Herbal aid during menopause
Menopause is a natural state of organism so it is questionable whether its course should be interfered with in any way. Father Grzegorz's Phytotherapy Center assumes that no intervention is necessary if menopause-related ailments are easily endured. However, when they become a problem, an interference takes place.
Such approach seems natural as no treatment is essential when there are no symptoms. Unfortunately, a lack of treatment for the physiological condition such as menopause is not acceptable in the times of ubiquitous hormone replacement therapy. Herbs which have estrogen-like effects are recommended in the menopause-related ailments. The basic herbal ingredient used in this condition is black cohosh/black snakeroot (Cimcifuga racemosa). It is recommended to be used together with hops. Such a combination appears in Klimaktobon, the preparation of which 1 capsule should be taken twice a day. Sometimes black snakeroot is applied with lemon balm oil as in Bonimel containing black snakeroot and lemon balm.
Both hop and lemon balm oil have a calming effect, which is extremely important in menopause-related ailments. Moreover, hop has an estrogen-like effect.
Drops containing an extract from black snakeroot combined with herbs which have a calming and spasmolytic effect are sometimes recommended for menopause.
Uterine myomas are common during menopause. It has been observed that using herbs produces good results in treating these. A 3-month therapy with Klimaktobon (1 capsule twice a day) is usually suggested, followed by a checkup with the use of an ultrasonic scanner. If myomas have contracted, the therapy with Klimaktobon is continued. However, if there is no contraction of a myoma following a 3-month therapy, it should be discontinued.
An extract from beebread, which also alleviates the symptoms of menopause, can sometimes also be used instead of or together with black snakeroot-based preparations. It is assumed that natural vegetable substances present in beebread, which work similarly to estrogen and/or anabolics, have the aforementioned therapeutic effects. If menopause symptoms include anxiety, which is common, it is advisable to amend the therapy with sedatives, like Nerwobon (a preparation in capsules).
Depressive symptoms sometimes appear during menopause. Unless they are very intensive, preparations with St John's wort, e.g. Depribon, are recommended to be used. However, it is generally enough to apply Klimaktobon (first 1 capsule twice a day then 1 capsule once a day).
A sensible advice for women experiencing or having experienced menopause is not to eat beef from an old cow.
