The prostate - a men's problem
The increase of the prostate is a common problem for elderly men. The increase is usually mild and that is why it may be treated with herbs. However, an assumption that the increase is mild in each case is risky.
If a patient has problems urinating, the process takes too long, it is painful or there is blood in urine, he should get examined by a urologist in order to rule out the prostate cancer. When this has been done, he may safely use herbs which will soothe or even eliminate the symptoms.
Herbs used in treating the increase of the prostate include the root of nettle and the fruit of Sabal palmetto. Extracts from both these herbs are present in Prostatobon. They have antiphlogistic and antihydropic effects on the prostate. They also have diuretic properties and reduce the tone of the smooth muscular coat in the urinary tract. Thanks to the combination of these two herbs the preparation soothes the pain at urination and reduces the retention of urine in the bladder and/or the urgency [to urinate].
Moreover, patients with an overgrown prostate often retain urine and suffer from protracted infections in the urinary tract. In such cases the goldenrod (Solidago), horse-tail (Equisetum), bistort (Polygonum) and the leaf of cowberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) are recommended. Apart from healing the infections in the urinary tract the herbs also stimulate the elimination of toxins from the body, i.e. they "purge blood".
Beside herbal preparations the use of beebread and propolis also produces positive results. Both these ingredients are present in Apibon (a preparation in capsules) and Bonimel (honey with an addition of beebread and propolis).
The increase of the prostate is accompanied by urolithiasis. The aforementioned herbs prevent the forming of urinary calculi and facilitate the elimination of urinary sand and/or tiny stones.
